RIP Bob of Sugar Shack Fame

Update: Bob’s not dead, he’s just retired.  Yay!

So I went through my old links archive to try and find the Bob’s Sugar Shack link.  Found it, clicked it, found an empty directory.  Huh?

Then I googled for Bob’s Sugar Shack, figured maybe he just moved to a different ISP or whatever.  The first two links were just generic business directories, nothing new, nothing informative.

The third link though… Appearantly Bob has passed on, and his Sugar Shack is no more.

This makes me sad.  I think it’s been 2 years since me and the folks were there.  But it was a good place and Bob was a good guy.  The breakfast buffet was awesome.  And Bob’s singing was….  something best experienced in person. 🙂

Tonight, I say a prayer for Bob and hope that wherever he is, the maple trees are tapped and the sap is running.  RIP Bob.

    Hi there,
I am actually Bob’s daughter, and I had found your blog by accident. I have some good news for you, Bob is not dead, we just moved and he retired. But because our busisness was word of mouth, so many people continued to go to the shack after we left, I think the new owners just told the relentless customers that Bob died.
I’m glad you had such a good time at the shack though. Thanks for coming out!

      hello Laura,
We too loved BOB’s sugar shack.
      miss it terrible.
What is the name of the location now? how can I find them? We may give them a try. We have moved on to Horton’s Sugar Bush.

Laura, thank you so much for this info – I’m very happy to know that Bob’s not dead! I hope Bob’s enjoying his retirement.

It’s amazing how everything all interconnects – I got the ‘news’ while trying to find Bob’s website, and the place I heard it from was someone who had gone to visit and been told by the new owners that Bob was gone… digital word-of-mouth I guess.

Anyhow – my family will be glad to hear this as well. Take care, and hope you all have a happy easter! 🙂

Hi Stephanie, Yep, I,m still alive qnd kicking. Now retired after 35 years as a full time firefighter with the City of Brampton. While becoming single again the sugar shack was sold and I bought a small cabin on Airport Road in Hockley valley. Moved here in 2005. Now am in the process of selling this place and going further north to Dorset on the Lake of Bays .Gotta find me a sugar bush to again play in. Guess it,s in my blood for life. When I read your letter it gives me a very good feeling inside. Thank,s for the kind words. Bobi

    Hi Bob & family,
I too must compliment you on a great Maple syrup shack. What a great experience I had there. I haven’t been in a long time and for years I’ve been trying to find if you are in still in business. Congrats on your retirement!! So, I have a question, does the sugar shack still exist at the same location off Old Base Line? Have the new owners taken over your buffet breakfast and sugar shack farm? I would love to still go. Please let me know…Kat

The first post made me laugh, only because I have no idea how the rumor of Bob being dead would even start… this man has more energy in his retirement than most teens in high school, and I’m sure a locomotive wouldn’t even be able to stop him. The guy truly has more lives than a cat, and more fun than a pirate. He’s going to be enjoying his retirement for a long time to come so any rumors floating around about his demise- please squash them.
