Flims Awaiting Processing

Soon I’ll have to mix up a new batch of colour chemistry. I’ve got a small-but-growing backlog of films impatiently in need of processing.

Do a Google search on Patrick Dignan’s “divided C-41.” It works very well and lets you avoid the problem of chemistry deteriorating over time.

Thanks for the tip, David! I’ll have to look that one up, I haven’t heard of it before.

I did have pretty good luck pushing my C-41 “press kit” chemistry well beyond its advertised lifespan. I ran over 3 times the number of films through it and used it for about quadruple the length of time it was supposed to be good for.

In the end the developer was still good but the blix was exhausted. I suspect that it could have lasted even longer if I was using a stop bath – but the instructions said to just go straight from developer to blix.

I’m on my second batch now, and this time I’m doing a simple water stop-bath between the developer and the blix, so hopefully the blix will last longer.
