Aquatic Thoughts
Posted 2016.06.03 12.09 in Aquaria byIt’s been roughly two and a half years since I lost all my beloved wet pets because of the big Ice Storm. In the aftermath of that tragedy I decided not to start over. I didn’t want to risk the possibility of going through that sort of thing again.
I’d had snails, fish, and frogs for several years at that point; all of the snails were those I’d bred through generations and some of the fish I’d had for many years, a couple were even bred in my tanks.
So when I was finally able to return home after the house had thawed, and after I’d cleaned out the tanks and disposed of the bodies, I got rid of it all. Couldn’t face it again.
The past couple days though I’ve suddenly been thinking about snails again. And maybe frogs, or fish…
I’d pretty much have to start over, all I kept from before was a few bits and pieces. Looking at prices and online windowshopping, I think it’d cost me about $150 to start over with the sort of setup I want.
Nothing huge like before, but more than a little ‘beginner’ set. Something like a 20 or 25 gallon long tank. I’d have to re-arrange some stuff in my livingroom but there’s a spot for it, sort of.
With a 20- or 25-gal tank, I could have a couple snails and a couple small fish, or a couple small frogs.
I sort of want to do it but I also sort of don’t want to.
So I’m sitting here trying not to go to an aquarium store, and if I do happen to accidentally end up at one, I will try not to end up buying stuff.
No guarantees though.
And here we are just over 1 hour later, and I may or may not have gone straight to an aquarium store and dropped a big pile of money on a new tank set-up.
Ok, I did go straight to an aquarium store and spend a pile of money on a new tank set-up.
But now I have something to do tonight / tomorrow!
And in a couple days I can go shopping for wet pets!
