Imbolc Update

Posted 2014.02.01 8.52 in Pointless Blather, Spiritual by Stephanie

The past six weeks, from Yule to Imbolc, have been pretty unpleasant here.

We had the ice storm, which led to damage to the house and a week-long power outage. My cats and I had to seek refuge with my sister. The house almost froze over while I was away and all my aquarium pets died.

Since the power was restored, my fridge has died, my furnace has needed work twice, the washer and dryer have needed attention, and the stairs to the cellar collapsed.

All in all, it’s been an unpleasant (and expensive) six weeks. Here’s hoping that things will improve between now and Ostara.

Looking ahead, I’m still working hard to get the update to Wicca Plus finished. It’s about a fortnight behind schedule due to the aforementioned issues, but with luck it should be completed shortly.

Wicca Plus v2.1 in the Works

Posted 2014.01.09 21.50 in iPhone by Stephanie

Work has begun on an update to Wicca Plus.

While I would prefer not to pre-announce new features / additions incase unforseen circumstances mean some things have to be dropped or delayed, there are a couple things which will definitely be included in the next release:

  • Southern Hemisphere Support – the sabbats section has been rewritten and a new option added to the Settings screen, allowing the app to correctly display the sabbats and lunar phases for everyone in the Southern hemisphere.
  • More Accurate Lunar Data – the Full and New Moon times were originally calculated using some math based on the average lunation period. This was only accurate to within plus or minus several hours, as the Moon’s orbit is not quite circular. I’ve now incorporated lunar data from a NASA website, which is accurate to less than 3 minutes from now till the end of the year 2100.
  • A New Font – this is purely cosmetic, but the Papyrus font is somewhat stale and old. I’ve found a new font which I rather like; hopefully this won’t draw more complaints than Papyrus did.
  • Change The Title – a new option has been added to the Settings screen, enabling users to change the title of the book. I have always called my book Liber Umbrarum et Lux but you can name your book as you see fit. This affects the Main / Contents page, and the Front Cover screen (in the Prefixes section.)
  • Minor bug fixes, performance improvements, and as always, corrections to spelling mistakes that slipped through the content editing.

New entries and some other new features are also in the works.

There’s no ETA for when this update will be out. Originally I had a tentative target date of Imbolc, but we got hit hard just after Yule by an ice storm and that has set things back by a week or more.

Wicca Version 3.5 Submitted

Posted 2013.09.12 12.53 in iPhone by Stephanie

Wicca_ThumbPreparations for iOS 7 continue; this morning I submitted the update to Liber Umbrarum et Lux.

As with PassGenR, this isn’t so much an update as a complete rewrite from scratch.

There have been some more typos corrected, a little bit of new content added, the Herbs section has been overhauled, and almost all of the photos and graphics have been redone.

All the same functions and features are there, plus a few new goodies. Primarily, better memory management and better code optimization. More noticable though is now it works in landscape orientation too, no longer just portrait.

The update has been sent to Apple, it’s just a matter of when it will get approved.

In the meantime, the current version is still available on the App Store.
