Wreck of a Weekend

Posted 2011.04.25 9.23 in Aquaria, Sports, Uncategorized by Stephanie

What a miserable crappy long weekend. The weather wasn’t as bad as forcast, though it was still fairly dreary. That wasn’t the worst of it though.

Thursday night was supposed to be good but instead I had to watch first Montreal, then Vancouver lose their playoff games. One disappointment after the next.

Friday was marginally better, with a new Fringe episode – although I didn’t think it was that great an ep. Too much telling, not enough showing.

Then Saturday night Montreal lost yet again. Three losses in a row now.

And last night was Vancouver’s turn to drop their third in a row. They were up 3-nil in the series, now it’s on to game seven.

And through all of this, my beloved pet snails had been dying off. I don’t know what the hell happened exactly, because the fish and frog in the same tank have been doing fine. Just all the snails died. The last couple died on Sunday. Including Little Buddy, who had been with me for nearly two years. He was my little methusela snail, the one who wouldn’t die. Till yesterday.

RIP Little Buddy.

What a crappy weekend. Nothing good came out of it, just disappointment and sadness.

The Line

This week, I feel as if I’ve crossed a line.

For a long time, I’ve been dealing with various health issues which, taken together, I would describe as making me feel unhealthy. This week I feel like things have just teetered over the edge from unhealthy, to dying.

I don’t mean to be alarmist. I’m not saying that some doctor has stamped a Best Before date on me or anything.

It’s just a sort of semi-subtle sensation, if you’ll forgive the alliteration (hey it rhymes!), that I’ve shifted from living with poor health to dying of poor health.

However, it’s not all doom and gloom. It actually makes me feel just a little bit of concern. Makes me very slightly inclined to try and do something about it.

Anyhow, no panic. I’m not going anywhere for some time yet, it’s just a feeling I had.

Fading Film

I’ve been having a lot of fun lately with my new digital SLR camera. So much in fact, that I decided to get out my old 35mm SLR and take some more shots with it, just to compare. Even after about 7 or 8 years in storage, the camera still works fine. It’s a (roughly) 20 or 25 year old Minolta X370 — almost completely manual. The only thing it can do automatically is if you focus and set the aperture, you can have the camera work out its own shutter speed. Other than that, it’s manual all the way.

Anyhow, I tested it out and the metering and shutter etc. all seemed to work. All I needed was to get some film, so I headed on over to Costco – they always had the best deals, like 5 or 10 rolls for some low low price. Their photo processing’s the best deal as well, actually it’s about the only thing I bought there for a while. So I went in, and started looking around…Minolta X370
