Happy Winter Solstace!

Posted 2009.12.21 9.49 in Pointless Blather, Spiritual

Happy solstace, joyous Yule, and all that.

Winter is now upon us, and although the days will start getting longer, they will continue to grow colder, for reasons I’ve never fully grasped.

Seriously, it’s like the seasons are 45 degrees out of phase with the tilt of the Earth’s axis in relation to the position of the planet’s orbit. Today is the day that the sun’s rays have the most air to go through before hitting those of us on the northern hemisphere. Today’s the day that there’s the least sunlight on the northern hemisphere. Why is it that the coldest day’s don’t hit till February?

Half the time it’s still winter-cold and snowy when the vernal equinox comes round in March! That’s not right – by then the days and nights are the same length, and the sun’s energy is much less oblique and more perpendicular, so there’s way less atmosphere – yet the real warm days don’t hit till after the summer solstace!

It just doesn’t make sense. Like I said – the seasons are 45 degrees out of phase with the whole scientific-explanation thingy.

It’s time once again to celebrate Samhain.

Have a joyous and magical Sabbat.

Poor Harry Joy

Bliss1985There was a movie back in the 80′s or early 90′s, I believe it was called Bliss. It was an Australian movie, about a fellow who at one point was a busy workaholic kind of guy, but all that changed after he had a heart attack.

Surviving the heart attack, he spent time at home, recovering. There, he was able to really observe his family for the first time, and he became convinced that he may have actually died from the heart attack, and that he was now in hell. There was his unfaithful wife, his neo-nazi son, crack-whore daughter…

From there, things sort of went downhill for the unlucky protagonist. The film had its funny moments (I think it was supposed to be a comedy, actually) but mostly I would call it poignant.

However, Harry Joy did get to die happy in the end.

And we all learned some important things about honey.

ITS FIXED!!!

I fixed it I fixed it I fixed it I fixed it!

I got some brass metal strip and cut it to size then made some holes in it to increase surface area, and used some epoxy to fix the metal over the crack on the back. I used more epoxy to build up material on the side as well, and then the face too where it had broken inside.

Epoxy is good and strong but you have to let it set for 24hours to really reach its full strength, so each step took a day of waiting for it to cure before I could turn it around and work on the next bit.

But it’s done now and I’m happy!! :D

The imposter is back in storage and my HPLX is back in my purse where it belongs.

Its Fixed!
Doesn’t it look so happy?! That’s the HPLX I love!
