The Blanket Connundrum

Posted 2016.05.31 9.41 in Pointless Blather

I have this blanket that’s super soft and warm. My mum gave it to me years ago. It’s just perfect.

Except in one corner there’s a tag that’s sort of scratchy and itchy. So I always make sure that’s at the bottom where it won’t irritate me.

Invariably when I’m cold and I grab the blanket in the middle of the night, it’s all backwards and I end up with the tag in my face or by my arm and end up having to turn the thing all around to get it right.

Every so often I stop and think: I could just cut off the tag. Then there won’t be an itchy corner, and I will never have to worry about whether or not the blanket is right-side-up or up-side-down.

But I never actually cut off the tag.

Because I am worried that without the tag…

I won’t actually be able to tell if the blanket is right-side-up or not.

The Tag Game

It just crossed my mind that sometimes you can form sentences out of the tags under blog posts. Ok, maybe my mind wanders a lot, but at least it gets out now and then. Anyhow, here’s the rules of the game:

  • You must use all the tag words in a given post, words may not be duplicated.
  • You must form a grammatically correct sentence, or a plausible newspaper-style headline sentence.
  • You may add your own punctuation.
  • Optionally, you may chose to allow pluralization / depluralization of available words.
  • One point is awarded for the first sentence you can come up with from a given blog post’s tags. Two points if you can make a second unique sentence. Three points for the third sentence, and so on.
  • There is no time limit, no competition, and no way to win – you can lose however, but only if you don’t play.

Here are some examples, using the tags from some recent posts:

Tags: early, insomnia, morning, sucks.

This is a very easy one, it becomes “Early morning insomnia sucks.

Tags: army, battle, fish, rebellion, snail.

This one makes a good newspaper headline: “Fish army battle snail rebellion!

There you go!  Now you try – but not with this blog post, the tags suck.

Tag-A-Thon

Posted 2009.07.20 9.03 in Computers/Internet/Technology, Pointless Blather

So for no reason in particular I have been going through all my old posts and adding tags. Out of 25 pages of posts, only the past 7 or 8 pages were tagged. I know the first 2 1/2 years my software didn’t have a tag option, then when I started with WordPress at first I didn’t use tags.

So, there’s probably in the order of 200 or 220 posts that didn’t have tags. I’ve got through all but the last 50 or 60, and I’ll do them later.

No reason I guess, other than to see what happens.

Update: I finished the tag-a-thon this morning — I’m pretty sure now that all my posts are tagged. Yay! I think.

Cheers!
