Spooky Stuff

Do you ever have those dreams where you’re basically attacked by paranormal stuff? You know, where objects in your house are thrown at you, and stuff is moving all around you and you can’t tell what’s real and what isn’t?

I don’t really like those dreams.

This morning I was dreaming that stuff was being pulled off my walls, like pictures and stuff like that. It was floating in mid air, then came flying across the room at me. Then when I tried to grab my cats and go, I couldn’t tell which ones were mine as there were too many cats around and my eyes were blurry.

It got kind of intense so I woke up. Glad it was just a dream.

Went to the kitchen to make some coffee, and sitting in the middle of the kitchen floor, perfectly upright and unspilled, is a single jar of spice.

What. The. Fuck.

I keep most of my spices on the back of the stove, and the rest of them are all there untouched. There’s a neat little gap where this one used to be. It’s been taken off the back of the stove, and placed neatly in the middle of the kitchen floor. I don’t even see any spillage along the way.

Yes, it does cross my mind that one of the cats did it. Except they don’t go up on the kitchen counters any more. Well for sure Misha doesn’t. And Pixie – while I’m making coffee, she’s sitting in the livingroom, at the kitchen door, crying and won’t come into the kitchen.

Like she’s afraid to come into the kitchen, now she’s looking at me as if she wants to know if it’s safe.

So great, now I’m feeling a little uneasy. At least there’s coffee.

Bump in the Night

Ah the joys of things moving by themselves.

Sitting in my livingroom, in the dark, watching tv. The cats are both asleep – one on the sofa near me, the other in the bedroom.

Then I hear the sound of something moving, a little shhhhhhh noise from behind, followed by the slap of something hitting the floor.

Oh look! A package of film has been pushed off a shelf and fallen to the livingroom floor!

None of the other film has been disturbed. None of the cameras have been moved either, fortunately.

Just one little package of film, was slid off the shelf to fall on the floor.

That’ll give me something to think about when I try to go to sleep tonight.

Bump in the Night

Or actually more of a scraaaaaape Crash! in the night.

You know how it is when you’re in bed, at long last starting to drift off, when you hear a really big clatter somewhere close? So you have to get up out of bed, turn on the lights, and try and figure out what happened?

Like thinking, was it a lamp falling over? Did the cats knock over the coat-tree? It sounded so close, maybe it was in the bedroom?

No, everything looks where it should. So you check the bathroom, the purple room, the kitchen.

Then you see one of the cats looking around with a WTF? expression, she heard it but doesn’t know what it was. The other cat is hiding or sleeping or something.

Finally you find the source of the noise; it was just a drinking glass. It was left on the desk, and has been pushed to the edge and then fell to the floor. Not broken fortunately, just laying on its side on the floor near the desk.

So you put the glass in the sink and go back to bed to start over with trying to fall asleep.

You know what I mean? I hate when that happens.

Oh and then to top it off, when you’re laying in bed with the laptop blogging about the first noise, then you hear a second one? Like some sort of punchline…

Whenever I think about moving glassware, I think about seances and ouiji boards and that tv show Most Haunted.

I wonder why they use glass. Perhaps because of it’s resistive properties; it is very electrically resistant. Glass is used in modern electronics, and was used back in the early days of electrical experimentation. Not to mention, glass is made out of the same stuff that computer chips are.

There may have been a point in there somewhere. I thought I had more to write on the subject but now it escapes me.

Things That Go Bump In The Afternoon

First a little bit of back-story: My house was built in the 1860s, there’s a lot of history in this old place, and a lot of ‘activity’. I’ve seen and heard a lot of interesting things, and had other sensitives tell me they’ve picked up a lot of energies here too. A few have specifically reported that they felt this house was some kind of way-station or crossover point, a little like a train platform – lots of comings and goings.

I’m not trying to convince people of anything, folks will believe what they want. Explanations, scientific or spiritual, are equally relevant: People go with the explanations that they are most comfortable with. For some, it’s scientific, for others, it is skeptic, and for a few, it is something Else. I’m in that last group, I’ve seen, heard, and experienced things that have convinced me to accept phenomina at face value.

I think I’ll probably make note in the future of other things, when they occur, so if you are interested, stay tuned.

So back to the story at hand. Yesterday was Canada Day (Happy Canada Day!) and I had some people over for a BBQ. Friends, family, nothing too big, just a fairly small do.

We were all outside, but one of my guests went in the house to use the facilities. She came out a few minutes later, came over to me and asked if I’d ever had anything ‘happen’ with the WC. Like what? I asked. Appearantly, the knob had turned and the door opened, all by itself, while she was in there. And there was nobody else in the house.

Now, I haven’t had that specific thing happen to me, but a lot of other things happen around here. Interestingly, there is very little repetition – in other words, we don’t really get the same thing happening over and over. About the only thing that is distinct and recurring, is the Pots-and-Pans-Crashing-Noise.

Every so often, perhaps once a month or every other month, in the middle of the night, is a terrific crashing noise from the kitchen. It sounds like a stack of pots and pans has been knocked onto the floor. The thing is, there is no stack of pots and pans, nothing is ever physically disturbed, it’s just the sound that happens. That noise has happened 4 or 5 times, over the past 6 or 8 months.
